JOB SUMMARY

 

Responsible for using continuous improvement (CI) experience and process improvement skills to identify and implement activities to reduce costs, improve equipment reliability and increase employee engagement to support corporate strategy and goals. Lead and assist CI initiatives.  Partner with all business functions at all levels, and with strategic partners and vendors, to develop programs and strategies that will deliver long term sustainable results. Comply with the agreed schedule, correct specifications, user requirements, approved metrics, and other key performance indicators (KPI’s).  Additionally, responsible for developing/documenting processes, analyzing and developing KPI’s, providing statistical controls and monitoring progress. 

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

  1. Integrate CI methodologies into the culture of the department.
  2. Work with business leaders, subject matter experts, project teams, and functional/non-functional partners to identify CI opportunities. Facilitate these opportunities from idea through completion as a method to cultivate the CI mindset.
  3. Measure progress by regularly monitoring performance against defined milestones, as well as improvements in key metrics. Work with stakeholders to ensure KPI’s are being achieved.
  4. Identify and engage key personnel required to successfully execute cross-functional or assigned projects and drive projects to achieve maximum results.
  5. Facilitate discussions on department project priorities and resource requirements for execution.
  6. Develop and validate metrics to measure on-going sustainment.
  7. Coordinate the implementation of best practices, processes and procedures. Educate department leadership in standardized work-flows, tools, measurements, process mapping and practices.
  8. Utilize CI methodology to create metrics, improve processes, increase throughput and reduce costs.
  9. Facilitate the use of CI to increase employee engagement, reduce costs and increase process improvements.
  10. Regularly communicate project status to all associated levels of group and field management personnel to support them in their goal attainment efforts.
  11. Provide guidance and opportunities that encourage and support employee involvement in CI.
  12. Consult with supervisor and/or others to analyze and understand functions to be automated, client needs, objectives, desired features and input and output requirements.
  13. Develop, document and maintain new operational planning tools as necessary to evaluate new opportunities.
  14. Develop training materials, tools, guides and job aids that create employee education and awareness within focused departmental areas.
  15. Support development of operational models by assisting with data gathering, analysis, field research, validation and testing on assigned tasks.
  16. Participate on cross-functional teams as assigned.
  17. Maintain management reports as assigned.
  18. Assist in developing, coordinating and/or conducting training and education programs for all linehaul classifications.
  19. Investigate existing or proposed administrative systems and procedures, and recommend methods for simplification and/or improvement.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS 

  1. Bachelor’s degree in Business or related field.
  2. Demonstrated ability to lead and manage projects from conception to final stages, recommended.
  3. Knowledge and understanding of process improvement methodology and/or change management.
  4. Demonstrated organizational abilities and leadership skills.
  5. Effective verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
  6. Demonstrated analytical skills.
  7. Ability to handle multiple initiatives in a fast paced environment with tight deadlines.
  8. Comfortable with change.
  9. Possess strong influencing, coaching, communication and facilitative skills.
  10. Ability to bring teams together to achieve targets and goals.
  11. Ability to diagnose and affect cultural change in moderate circumstances.
  12. Some travel may be required.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS 

  1. Three (3) year’s process improvement and project management experience.
  2. Lean and/or Six Sigma background, Six Sigma Black Belt certification or higher.
  3. Project Management, PMP, Certification
  4. Knowledge and understanding of freight movement management processes.
  5. Project management of large, complex, and multi-location projects with significant results.

 

WORKING CONDITIONS

 

This job operates in a professional office environment indoors. Routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

 

The position requires the ability to spend long hours sitting or standing while using office equipment and computers.  Ability to perform repetitive tasks such as typing and keying. Occasional lifting, pushing/pulling, carrying 10 lbs of supplies and materials is required.
