Safety Manager
Position Summary
Promote all aspects of safety, company-wide. Work with and through management to ensure compliance with safety and environmental procedures to assist in the achievement of profitability and productivity requirements.
Position Duties
- Develop, plan and implement safety policies and procedures in compliance with all federal and provincial safety regulations.
- Collaborate and work with VP Operations and Safety Director on safety compliance concerns and formulate preventative action plan.
- Plan, set-up and conduct training for employees on work site safety practices.
- Review reports and provide feedback to ensure completion and accuracy.
- Maintain safety files and records.
- Perform safety surveys and inspections; prepare written reports of findings and recommendations for corrective or preventive measures. Follow-up to ensure measures have been implemented.
- Conduct post-accident investigation and prepare report for employees and senior management identifying possible accident causes.
- Develop, evaluate and upgrade safety programs and policies.
- Other duties as assigned.
Working Conditions
Work is not limited by time and location. Extensive travel is required.
Competencies/Requirements
- Knowledge of Canada Labor Code OH&S regulations, CVOR and Federal Motor Carrier Safety Act regulations (CSA) and DOT regulations, WCB, Dangerous Goods and WHMIS.
- Must be able to travel extensively – 70 to 80%
- Completion of secondary school.
- Effective verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
- Experience using Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
- Must be able to provide a clear criminal record check.
Preferred qualifications:
- Class 1 driving Experience of at least 5 years
- Valid Class 1 License with Air Brake endorsement and a clear Abstract
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent education and work experience.
